SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was considered to be the next "Calvin Johnson" when he signed with Georgia Tech back in 2006.

“It was amazing,” Thomas said of his signing day. “It changed my whole life. I signed with Georgia Tech. I was proud.”

Thomas was recruited by former Georgia Tech assistant Giff Smith.

Thomas, who’s preparing to face the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday at Levi Stadium, paused to remember those times fondly.

“That was a lot of pressure,” Thomas said. “I was actually going there to learn some stuff from (Johnson), but he left right after the year I got there. I was going to go up there and be myself. I had some great guys around me.

I can’t say I was Calvin, but I did my part when I was at Tech.”
