Falcons tight end Jacob Tamme, who is in the last year of a two-year contract, had shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.

“Unfortunately I had to have season-ending surgery this morning,” Tamme wrote on Twitter on Friday. “Thank you to everyone who has been praying (and) sending support.

“I love our team so this situation brings great disappointment. But this is my (first) surgery in (nine years. I feel very blessed.”

Tamme was trying to rehab the separated A/C shoulder joint, but it didn’t respond.

Tamme, who suffered a shoulder injury against Green Bay, has missed the past two games.

Tamme had 22 catches for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

Rookie Austin Hooper, a third-round pick from Stanford, has been getting first-team repetitions, but Levine Toilolo started against Tampa Bay and Philadelphia.

Joshua Perkins, who made the team as an undrafted free agent from Washington, has been active the past two games.

Toilolo said he’s ready to step forward in Tamme’s absence.
