Rookies Jones, Campbell start on defense

Aug 19, 2016

Rookies Deion Jones and De’Vondre Campbell started at middle lineacker and weakside linebacker for the Falcons at the Cleveland Browns on Thursday.

Jones was a bit eager and missed a tackle of Isaiah Crowell on the first play of the game.

Paul Worrilow, the incumbent, started the exhibition opener against Washington and is listed as the starter on the team’s depth chart at middle linebacker. He played well in the opener against Washington and has had a strong training camp.

Jones, the team’s second-round draft pick, has quickly picked up the defense and was calling signals. He tied for the team lead with five tackles in the opener.

Veteran Sean Weatherspoon looked at home starting at weakside linebacker against the Redskins. He was running boundary to boundary and making strong tackles.

The Falcons want to take a longer look at Campbell, a fourth-round pick.
