Falcons rookie Vic Beasley believes he’s getting close to compiling more quarterback sacks.
Coach Dan Quinn said that’s true but he wants more production out of his first-round draft pick, who has just two sacks through six games.
“Close doesn’t really count in this,” Quinn said Wednesday. “It’s all about the finish. The hits are there, batted balls—those are good. But how often do we move the QB off the spot? And really let’s make sure we are all rushing together, all four guys.”
Beasley has rushed the passer 164 times over six games, according to Pro Football Focus. He’s officially been credited with three quarterback hits and Pro Football Focus also has him with 10 hurries.
Beasley faced Pro Bowl tackles in his first five games but last Thursday he couldn’t take advantage of Saints rookie tackle Andrus Peat, who played 51 snaps. Beasley had just one hit and three hurries against the Saints.
“He’s a huge factor in what we are going to do,” Quinn said. “For sure he’s really working hard to get better and play at a really high level. Although the numbers aren’t there like we’d like for him, there is no decline in the attitude and the work.”
