Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews is recovering from an offseason foot surgery and will miss most of the offseason program.

“Jake is healing very well,” general manager Thomas Dimitroff said on Thursday. “He knows his body. He takes really good care of how he approaches his body.”

Matthews, the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft, played last season on a high ankle sprain. He suffered another injury in the season finale against Carolina. After the season had foot surgery and is expected to miss most of the team’s offseason program.

“He decided to go through the procedure that he went through because he thought it was the best way to get himself back healthy by the beginning of the year,” Dimitroff said. “We have no concerns that way.”

Matthews played 962 tackles and was the last ranked (84th) tackle in the league by Pro Football Focus.
