Coach Katherine (Katie) Sowers, who’s currently the general manager of the Kansas City Titans of the Women’s Football Alliance, is serving a coaching internship with the Falcons through training camp.

Sowers is also currently the senior recreation director and athletics coordinator for the Kansas City department of parks and recreation.

Sowers was working with the wide receivers in practice on Saturday.

Sowers received her bachelor’s degree from Goshen College (Ind.) where she played basketball and earned her master’s degree from Central Missouri State University.

Sowers is an eight-time All American for the Kansas City Titans of the Women’s Football Alliance. She has participated as a player and player/coach.

She also was the captain of the 2013 IFAF USA Women’s national football team that won the gold medal.

She also served as an assistant football coach at Shawnee Mission North Schools (Kansas) for two seasons.

Also, Sowers helped to coach the wide receivers in the East-West Shrine game on Charlie Weis’ staff in January.

“There’s a lot of things that will help take them to the next level,” Sowers said to St. Petersburg’s Fox 13. “Whether that be the NFL or being a husband or a father, there are so many things we can teach these guys in this short week. Which has been amazing.”

The Arizona Cardinals hired Dr. Jen Welter last year for a pre-season coaching internship. Welter became the first and only female NFL coach.
