Falcons running back Steven Jackson needs 56 rushing yards to become the 19th player in NFL history to rush for 11,000 yards or more.

“It’s an amazing feat,” Jackson said. “Whenever I do eclipse the 11,000-yard mark, it will mean a lot to me. But like football, I’ve done it with the success of a lot of my teammates over the years. Good games, bad games, they all compile to this milestone. I relish in it but at the same time, keep it going.”

Thirteen of the 18 players to rush for at least 11,000 yards are members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Jerome Bettis and Edgerrin James are on the Hall ballot for the first this year and LaDainian Tomlison hasn’t yet met the five-year waiting period. Fred Taylor and Corey Dillon are eligible for the Hall but are not on the ballot.

In nine seasons with the Rams Jackson rushed for 10,138 yards in 2,396 carries (4.2 average) with 56 touchdowns. He signed with the Falcons as a free agent last year and has 806 yards on 226 carries (3.6 average) with eight touchdowns in 18 games.
