In a move designed to improve the depth in the secondary, the Falcons, who have had repeated miscommunications on deep passes, signed veteran safety Charles Godfrey and waived safety Sean Baker on Tuesday.

Godfrey, 28, played seven seasons with the Panthers and started 75 of 82 games. He has 11 career interceptions. Godfrey was released by the Panthers on Oct. 21.

Godfrey, 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, was originally selected by the Panthers in the third-round (67th overall) of the NFL draft in 2008.

Baker spent part of the 2013 season on the Falcons practice squad before being signed to the active roster for the season finale.

Baker was signed to the Falcons active roster on September 30 after beginning the season on the club’s practice squad.
