Falcons’ defensive lineman Derrick Shelby is changing positions.

He is moving to the defensive tackle position after spending the last four seasons at defensive end for the Miami Dolphins.

However, he admits the transition is a learning experience.

“Getting used to always playing covered up,” Shelby said. “Last year I was on the edge and this year I will be covered up in the interior of the line. That is one thing I got to get used to.”

Shelby is expected to play opposite nose tackle Grady Jarrett in base coverage.

In 2015, he collected 37 tackles and registered 3.5 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and one interception in a reserve role.

Shelby, a undrafted rookie out of Utah, came to the Falcons in early March. He signed for four years and $18 million dollars in free agency.
