Falcons safety William Moore is set to return to full contact in practice this week and could play against the Cardinals on Sunday after missing the past seven games because of a shoulder injury.

“We will see how he makes it through the week,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said today. “He will be eligible to return to game activity. If everything goes well, we sure will welcome him back with open arms because he’s a very good player for us.”

Moore was placed on short-term injured reserve after suffering the injury against the Vikings on Sept. 28 and returned to practice last week. NFL rules stipulate he must miss a minimum of eight weeks before playing in games.

The Falcons drafted Moore, 29, in the second round of the 2009 draft out of Missouri and he’s been a starter since his second season. Last year the Falcons signed Moore to a five-year contract that included $14 million guaranteed.

Second-year safety Kemal Ishmael has started in place of Moore.
