DAN QUINN, Head coach
Opening statement
“The end of the game, that was the hardest part for us. At the end of the third quarter, we were plus two. Then two turnovers led to six points at the end of the game. Let’s give credit to Miami. They finished better than we did tonight. But I want you to understand this, we’ll be a team that finishes everything that we do. In the games, the halves….we’ll be a finishing team. Let’s make sure that point really gets across. I was pleased at the end of the half. Schofield and Clayborn had back to back sacks. We got some points off of that. But in the end we have a lot of work to do in terms of how we finish.”
How did the first units play?
“From the offensive side, it was a little bit inconsistent in terms of protections and in the run game. We had some first downs to get going to extend some (drives). Penalties threw us back one time. A TFL (tackle for loss) threw us back one time and we got into some negative situations in terms of downs and distance. Defensively, on third downs I thought me made a real improvement. Special teams, I couldn’t have been more pleased with Matt Bryant in terms of the connection that he’s had this training camp and into the preseason games. I think that’s five (made field goals) for him. Matt is really on it. Cover wise, I felt like from the cover unit and the kickoff return, we spent a lot of time on that this week in practice. I was pleased to see them come through.”
On Julio Jones contract extension
“One of the awesome things about him is knowing that he’s going to be with us for a long time. We love the competitor. The style. The effort. He really represents all of the things that that I love about football. The attitude, the effort and the style. He’s a really unique player. I can’t wait to coach him for along time.”
ARTHUR BLANK, FALCONS OWNER
On getting the Julio Jones deal completed
“We couldn’t be more enthused about it than what we are. He’s been a great player for us. Like the coach said, he represents everything that we love in terms of a player on the field and off the field. One of the beauties is and you saw it during this whole offseason, other players would be distracted by this process during the OTAs, during the camp, minicamp, or regular camp. But he came to work and worked hard. It was never an issue. There was never a question. He knew that we’d eventually be able to pull something together that would be acceptable to us and to him. We were able to do that. It’s a credit to him personally. It’s a credit to our organization, guys like Nick Polk, Thomas (Dimitroff) and others who have worked on this deal.”
JULIO JONES, wide receiver
On the new contract
“We had a talk about it early on today. Jimmy (Sexton), my agent. He called me early on today. He was like, “keep your phone on. We might get this thing done today.’ He was like, ‘even in pre-game warmups, take your phone out there.’ When don’t know when it’s going to get done. But when I figured out and knew for sure that it was done was when Mr. Blank got here. He came on the field and gave me a big hug. He was like congratulations. He said he was very proud of the way I handled this. … by keep the team first.”
On not fussing about the negotiations
“It was difficult at all for me. It’s just may makeup. The way I was raise I guess. I just left it in God’s hands. I talked to my mom (Queen) every day about. She was like just pray about it. Just come up and show up to work everyday. Let God take care of it and that’s what I did.”
On if he had any doubts
“I didn’t have any doubts in my mind that we were going to get it done. If it wasn’t this year, it would have been next year. We were going to get a deal done. Like I said, I wanted to be a Falcon for the rest of my career. Mr. Blank let it be known that he wanted me here as well. We came to an agreement today.”
RYAN SCHRAEDER, Right tackle
On the line’s play
“It wasn’t perfect. We’ve got some things to work on. Overall, it’s part of the process. Make errors. It’s part of working those out in the preseason.”
On the run game
“We haven’t fully put in our game plan. We are not trying to give everything away yet. It will start clicking.”
BROOKS REED, strongside linebacker
On the defense
“We had a couple of situations where we had some adversity. I like how we responded and kept competing. That’s what our team is all around.”
How as the dress rehearsal
“We knew it was going to be kind of challenging with a system that does zone-read. I thought we had a good game plan going into it. It was a pretty good warmup for a team that we are playing soon that does the same thing.”
MATT RYAN, Quarterback
On the run game
“It’s a combination of a bunch of things. WE have to look at the tape and see where we missed today. It’s about continuing to try and learn the scheme. Keep improving. Keep working the scheme and keep practicing. The more reps we get with that, the better off we are going to be.”
On how Tevin Coleman played
“I thought Tevin did a nice job. In some of the situations he had some tough looks to go against. But I thought the one run where it looked like he was kind of down and he kept the motor running and kind of extended that run… after contact. That thing kind of showcased what he’s capable of doing.
