Marty Lauzon, previously the team's trainer, was named the Falcons director of sports medicine on Wednesday.
Lauzon has been with the Falcons for three seasons as the head athletic trainer.
Lauzon was responsible for handling all aspects of the club’s athletic training department.
In 2009, he spent a year as the director of sports rehabilitation for NovaCare-Northeastern Ohio.
Lauzon spent 10 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, serving from 2005-08 as the team’s head athletic trainer.
Lauzon is a certified athletic trainer and is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Physical Therapy School.
He is also a certified specialist in sports physical therapy through the American Physical Therapy Association.
In 1992, Lauzon began his career as an intern with the Montreal Machine of the Word League of American Football before moving on to Ottawa of the CFL.
Jeff Fish, the Falcons former director of athletic performance, was released Tuesday.
The move is surprising because several players credited Fish with improving their strength, speed and agility.
Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez credited Fish's kettle bell workouts with helping him to continue to play at a high level at age 36.
He also oversaw quarterback Matt Ryan's offseason workouts last season that were credited for his improve strength down the stretch.
Except for the 2009 season, the team has not been beset with a great deal of serious injuries on Fish's watch.
During the 2008 season, he was fined $2,500 by the league for his role in a sideline skirmish that involved Washington cornerback DeAngelo Hall.
