FLOWERY BRANCH—Falcons coach Mike Smith said starting cornerback Robert Alford is being fitted for a cast today and will try to practice this week and play against the Packers on Monday night.
Alford has missed the past two games after suffering a wrist fracture. At the time of the injury Smith said Alford would miss two to four weeks and could play with a cast with no possibility of additional damage.
“We had him running on side (with team trainers) Thursday,” Smith said. “Certainly we hope we have him out there this week.”
The Falcons selected Alford in the second round of the 2013 draft out of Southeastern Louisiana and he’s started 14 of 26 career games.
Robert McClain has started in place of Alford.
Smith also said defensive tackle Paul Soliai will return to practice this week after not playing against the Cardinals on Sunday for what Smith said were personal reasons.
