Ex-Falcon Greg McCrary dies
Former Falcons tight end Greg McCrary died Tuesday, according to his brother.
McCrary, 61, suffered cardiac arrest Saturday morning and was on life support since then, as family members gathered at the hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending.
“We appreciate the sympathy and prayers for the family — that goes a long ways,” said his brother, Phil McCrary, who is athletic coordinator for DeKalb County Schools. “But he’s in a better place now. He’s in a better place.”
McCrary was a fifth-round pick out of Clark Atlanta by the Falcons in 1975. He was with the team until 1977. He also played with the Washington Redskins (1978 and 1981) and the San Diego Chargers (1978-80). He played in 74 games and made 13 starts in the NFL.
McCrary was a former assistant football coach at Cedar Grove (2003-08) and the father of 2012 The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super 11 QB Johnathon McCrary of Cedar Grove, who enrolled early at Vanderbilt in January.
