Former local standout Jonathan Celestin, who was one of the stars of the Falcons’ training camp, was signed to the New York Jets practice squad on Tuesday.

Celestin, who was signed by the Falcons after a workout on July 30, showed some pass rushing ability and solid play at linebacker, but was cut.

Celestin played at Mundy’s Mill High and had his high school jersey retired. He was named Clayton County defensive player of the year after making 139 tackles during his senior season.

He went on to play at Minnesota, where he had a solid career. In 2017, he played in all 12 games and was second on the team with 78 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss.

In 2018 exhibition action, Celestin led the Falcons with 21 tackles while adding 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits. He spent two weeks on the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad before being released last month.
