FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons defensive end Vic Beasley will have another tough assignment when the Falcons face the Dallas Cowboys at 1 p.m. Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Against the Cowboys, Beasley will face left tackle Tyron Smith, who was named to the All-Pro team last season.

“Yeah, I embrace it,” Beasley said. “I’m looking forward to this matchup.”

Beasley opened his NFL career against seven-time Pro Bowler Jason Peters of Philadelphia. Last week, Beasley went against rookie Ereck Flowers, who was drafted one spot behind Beasley.

Beasley has been diligently studying Smith’s moves.

“He’s got long arms and is very athletic,” Beasley said. “He’s kind of like Peters, but a little bigger.”

Falcons coach Dan Quinn is pleased with how Beasley is handling the early part of his rookie season.

“I think every week it’s ball in the NFL,” Quinn said. “How hard you have to go, and the battle you have to go. It was awesome to see him compete again (against the Giants) and just going for it. He’s still got the initial quickness to beat a guy to the punch.”

Beasley recorded his first career sack in the fourth quarter against the Giants. He also had two quarterback hurries.

“He’s a factor for sure, and just knowing how hard you have to bring it all of the time is one of the biggest jumps that a guy has to make from college into the NFL,” Quinn said. “So many guys have to go through it, and he’s going through it right in front of us in terms of every week (he has) to bring it.”
