Falcons coach Dan Quinn held linebacker/defensive end Vic Beasley out of the team’s exhibition game against Cleveland because of shoulder injury.

After the game, Quinn said that Beasley should return soon and that the current injury was “unrelated” to the torn labrum in right shoulder that he played with during the 2015 season.

Quinn expects that Beasley will play against Miami on Thursday.

“He just took a shot on it in practice,” Quinn said. “He wanted to go and this was a case of this wasn’t the time to go do that and push through when we didn’t have to.”

Also, running back Terron Ward (ankle), strong safety Kemal Ishmael (shoulder), cornerback C.J. Goodwin (hamstring) and kicker Matt Bryant (tightness) did not play in the second exhibition game.

The Falcons lost punter Matt Bosher in the game on a questionable hit by Cleveland linebacker Tank Carder.

The Falcons selected Beasley with the No. 8 overall pick after he set Clemson’s sacks record. Beasley didn’t reach his stated goal of 10 sacks but had a solid season with four sacks, 26 tackles, two forced fumbles, three passes defended and an interception.
