Bad snaps have been a problem for the Falcons no matter who is playing at center.

Mike Person’s wayward shotgun snap against the Buccaneers today at the Georgia Dome cost the Falcons a chance for at least three points. The Falcons had a second-and-goal at the four-yard line in the second quarter when Person’s snap was low and to the left of Ryan, who couldn’t handle it.

Neither Ryan nor running back Devonta Freeman could recover the ball as it trickled beyond their grasps. Bucs defensive end Jacquies Smith scooped it up at the nine and returned it to the 22-yard line. The Bucs converted that turnover into a 23-yard field goal by Connor Barth that put them ahead 6-3 with 3:32 until halftime.

It’s the second time this season the Falcons had a turnover in the red zone because of a poor snap.

James Stone filled in for the injured Person against the Saints in Week 6 and had a poor snap with the Falcons at the Saints’ 14-yard line. Stone appeared to belive Ryan was under center instead of in the shotgun. The Saints recovered the fumble and went on to a 31-21 victory.
