Florida, Tennessee game to be played as scheduled in Gainesville

Affectionately known as "The Swamp," Ben Hill Griffin Stadium first opened in 1930. The then-called Florida Field held nearly 22,000 before addition in 1950 expanded seating capacity by 10,000. It has feature AstroTurf and a grass field. Renamed in 1991 after a donor, the Gainesville landmark has packed more than 88,000 fans every game since 1989.

After assessing the damage to the Florida campus from Hurricane Irma, the SEC announced the Florida Gators and Tennessee Volunteers will play as scheduled on Saturday at Gainesville’s Bill Hill Griffin Stadium.

The No. 22 Volunteers travel to the Swamp with an 2-0 record after coming from behind to defeat Georgia Tech in double overtime in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game and defeating Indiana State 42-7 in the Vols’ home opener on Saturday.

At No. 24, the Gators have only played one game after Saturday’s game against Northern Colorado was canceled due to the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Irma. The Gators opened the season at No. 11 Michigan and suffered a 33-17 loss, even with the help of back-to-back pick-6s.

The Gators had 10 players suspended for the season opener at Michigan.

The Volunteers and Gators kick off at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
