Bill Elliott is returning to NASCAR – for one more race.

Elliott, a former champion in NASCAR's top series, will compete in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway on July 7 in a car sponsored by Walmart.

The retail giant announced the one-race deal Thursday as part of its 50th anniversary. The Dawsonville native will drive a Chevrolet, entered by Turner Motorsports with a Hendrick Motorsports engine, numbered 50.

Elliott, 56, hasn’t run a full schedule in several years. He drove in five races last year, with Phoenix Racing, including a 12th place finish in the Daytona 500.

According to a Walmart spokesperson the company has no immediate plans to expand the car sponsorship beyond the one race.

Elliott has two Daytona 500 victories among his 44 career victories and won the then-Winston Cup championship in 1988. He was named NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver a record 16 times.
