Georgia Tech linebacker Jakob Brashear is in the process of being placed on medical scholarship, according to a person familiar with the situation. Brashear, who would be going into his junior season, has dealt with injuries through his career.

A medical scholarship would enable Brashear to complete his Tech academic career on scholarship without counting against the NCAA’s 85-scholarship maximum. In his career, Brashear appeared in two games in his two seasons. Brashear, from Dacula High, was part of the 2016 signing class and took a redshirt that season.

Being placed on medical scholarship is not an uncommon process. In recent years, offensive linemen Jake Stickler, Jake Whitley and Chris Griffin and safety A.J. Gray have left the team and completed their degrees on medical scholarship.
