John Rhys Plumlee on Monday night flipped his commitment to Ole Miss after initially pledging to Georgia in the summer.

Georgia had asked Plumlee to take a blueshirt, meaning that he would not have been on scholarship until classes start until the fall and that his scholarship would count toward the 2020 total. Plumlee could not have enrolled early and he would’ve had to pay his way through his first few months on campus.

With the news of Justin Fields was transferring, the Bulldogs were projected to have just one scholarship quarterback in Jake Fromm before signing Stetson Bennett and Dwan Mathis in December.

Plumlee was rated as a 4-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite rankings, and the No. 13 dual threat quarterback in the 2019 class. He is from Hattiesburg, Miss.

Saying, “I feel God is calling me to serve in Oxford,” Plumlee announced his decision on Twitter:

With his de-commitment, Georgia still has the No. 2 class in the country. National Signing Day is Wednesday and Georgia still has a chance to close strong. The Bulldogs are finalists with a number of prospects, including 4-star cornerback Kaiir Elam, 4-star athlete Mark Antony Richards and 3-star tight end Brett Seither.
