Former Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green, projected to be a top-10 pick in April’s NFL Draft, will speak with Falcons beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter on an occasional basis leading to the draft and share his views on the process of becoming an NFL player.
I knew that going to the NFL scouting combine would be a super major deal for me.
At first, I was a little concerned because I didn't know what to expect. But it was easy going into each interview. The people were pretty down to earth.
They'd ask me some general questions, and we'd watch some film from last year. Then, I'd have to give them what I learned and draw up some of the plays that we ran at Georgia. I just had to tell them little things like, what's my favorite route and how I read defensive backs.
Then, I would have to explain my suspension. They wanted to hear my side of the story. I just told them that it was an honest mistake and that going through the whole process has made me a better person.
After the interviews, I got the feeling that Cincinnati was really interested in me. Also, the Browns and Carolina were very interested.
Julio Jones had a great combine. We'd been working out together in Phoenix. I feel really bad for Julio. When we got back, he left on Monday or something like that. He had to have a surgery. I think it's going to be fine. It's amazing that he did all of that on a broken foot.
We weren't roommates at the combine, but we talked a lot. We did a lot of warm-ups and stuff together.
But during the interviews, they were asking me all kinds of crazy questions. Like, ‘if you got lost in the forest, how would you find your way out?' And, ‘What does a chair and table have in common?'
I just said look toward the sun on the forest question, but that was wrong. They said I should follow the moss on the trees.
I said that the chair and table were both pieces of furniture that you use in your house. That was the correct answer since they are both pieces of furniture.
I took the Wonderlic, too. I think it went well, but they didn't tell us our score.
At Georgia's Pro Day, I'm probably going to do some of the receiver drills, but nothing else because I thought my combine workout went well.
Oh, man, I feel a little relief now that the combine is over. But I have to keep working until Georgia's Pro Day on the 22nd of March, and we'll just see what happens on the 28th [of April] when the draft comes.
If I get invited to New York, I want to attend.
