Herschel Walker (1980-82) was Top Dog physically and in the record books. Considered the greatest player to wear the red and black, the Wrightsville native won the 1982 Heisman Trophy. Walker rushed for more than 1,600 yards each of his three years, including school records his junior year: 1,891 yards on 385 carries with 18 touchdowns. He joined the new USFL as its first star.
