Swarm was the key word in Tennessee defender Curt Maggitt’s vocabulary this week, using it to describe how to bring down Todd Gurley. The Volunteers should get plenty of practice against Gurley and the other Bulldogs backs, but Tennessee also has a talented freshman in Jalen Hurd.

It’s that time of year when we start discovering if teams are pretenders or contenders. N.C. State (4-0) has been reenergized by former Florida QB Jacoby Brissett and a less-than-hardy schedule, but Jameis Winston is eligible, and FSU’s win streak will reach 20.
Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (Arlington, Texas), 3:30 p.m., CBS
Hopefully the scoreboards won’t burn out after this one because they’ll be needed when the Cowboys and Saints play here Sunday. The Razorbacks better have enjoyed their sojourn outside the conference. Welcome back to the Death March called the SEC West.
Missouri at South Carolina, 7 p.m., ESPN
Steve Spurrier used “embarrassing” to describe the Gamecocks after their escape from Vanderbilt. Try to imagine what adjective he’ll find if Missouri sends the Gamecocks to SEC loss No. 2. Indiana exposed the Tigers, weaknesses that South Carolina will exploit.
Duke at Miami, 7:30 p.m., ESPN2
The Blue Devils have torched Miami for 93 points the past two seasons and have shown they can score this season, albeit against more defenseless teams. The Canes have more athletes, have been tested and are favored, but don’t be shocked if Duke scores plenty (and even wins).
