“Showcase Saturday” might be more fitting.
No conference has ever had six ranked teams — five of them are undefeated — from one division playing each other on the same Saturday.
The SEC hasn’t seen three games featuring six ranked teams since 1993, according to STATS.
Texas A&M at Mississippi State, noon, ESPN
These are the kind of games that destroyed Mississippi State last year. The Bulldogs lost to all five of the ranked teams on their schedule, but notched one of the more impressive victories this year by winning at LSU two weeks ago. Texas A&M was pushed to overtime last week, so will it have anything left?
Alabama at Ole Miss, 3:30 p.m., CBS
This game must be a big deal. “College GameDay” is heading to The Grove for the first time for this game featuring No. 3 at No. 11. Ole Miss played like it already had Bama on the brain in last week’s win over Memphis, while the Crimson Tide had an extra week to prepare.
LSU at Auburn, 7 p.m., ESPN
What a tough place for a freshman quarterback to make his first career start, but that’s exactly what LSU’s Brandon Harris will do at Jordan-Hare. He’s been spectacular in selected spots, and the Tigers can’t afford a second SEC loss. Auburn might remember that its only regular-season loss last year was at LSU.
Miami at Georgia Tech, 7:30 p.m., ESPN2
Another undefeated team is in action Saturday, this one closer to home. Winning hasn’t been easy for the Yellow Jackets, who likely would move into the Top 25 with a win over the Hurricanes. Miami fixed its defense in time to shut down Duke on Saturday, one week after being mauled by Nebraska.
Nebraska at Michigan State, 8 p.m., ABC
The Cornhuskers have lost exactly four games every season that Bo Pelini has coached them, but unless disaster strikes, that streak should come to a halt. Nebraska already is 5-0, and there aren’t many likely losses on its schedule. This is one of them. Ameer Abdullah is the best back west of Todd Gurley.
