Former Georgia Tech assistant coach Bryan Cook has been dismissed at Georgia Southern after one season as its offensive coordinator.
Cook served as the Yellow Jackets’ quarterbacks and B-backs coach from 2013 to 2016 and left Tech to become the Georgia Southern offensive coordinator for coach Tyson Summers. He was hired as Summers tried to return the Eagles to the option offense that Tech coach Paul Johnson had run with great success as offensive coordinator and then head coach in Statesboro.
However, in part because of poor play by the offense, Summers was fired midway through the season. Summers’ interim replacement, Chad Lunsford, was made the full-time replacement last week with one game remaining.
Sunday, following the Eagles’ final game of the season, the school announced that Lunsford was not going to retain Cook along with defensive coordinator Lorenzo Constantini and strength and conditioning coach Dwayne Chandler.
Georgia Southern finished tied for 115th nationally in yards per game at 323.2. The Eagles showed improvement at season’s end, gaining 356 and 389 yards in wins over South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette in the 10th and 11th games of the season, the Eagles’ only wins of the season.
