Georgia has hired Atlanta native Tracy Rocker, an All-American player at Auburn and former Tigers assistant, to coach its defensive line coach.

Rocker said he will officially join Georgia’s staff next week.

“Obviously being an SEC player and (former) SEC coach, I had great interest in the position,” Rocker said in a telephone interview. “I know the history of the school from growing up in the Atlanta. I know what it’s like in that area as far as recruiting and I’m close to (home).”

Rocker most recently was defensive line coach for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans but was out of a job when the team fired coach Mike Munchak and his staff. Rocker was on Auburn’s staff for two years, including the 2010 BCS national championship season.

Rocker played at the old Fulton High School before it merged into South Atlanta High. He joined the Titans after stops at several colleges.

Fox Sports first reported Rocker’s hiring.
