Steve Addazio is in his first year as head coach at Boston College, but he’s all too familiar with Florida State.
Addazio faced the Seminoles six times from 2005-10 when he was an assistant coach at Florida. He went 5-1 against FSU, including four wins in which the Gators scored 34 or more points.
But the talent gap between Florida and BC is dramatic. The Eagles (2-1, 1-0 ACC) opened the season with wins over Villanova and Wake Forest but are coming off a 35-7 loss at Southern Cal on Sept. 14. BC will host No. 8 Florida State (3-0, 1-0) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (TV TBA).
The Eagles have struggled on offense, generating just 163 passing yards per game even though they have a fourth-year starter in quarterback Chase Rettig. BC does most of its damage on the ground, as senior Andre Williams ranks 15th nationally with 356 rushing yards.
FSU is holding opponents to 115 passing yards per game (No. 1 in FBS) and 8.7 points per game (No. 3 in FBS).
“Florida State has a very dynamic offense,” Addazio said. “FSU has one of the top defenses in the country. … This may be the best (FSU) team since I’ve competed against them.”
Hunter questionable: FSU safety Tyler Hunter suffered a neck contusion in the first half of Saturday's win over Bethune-Cookman, and FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said he is questionable for the BC game.
Dukes honored: Jamie Dukes, who was a consensus All-America offensive lineman at FSU in 1985, will be honored as one of the ACC's legends Dec. 6 in Charlotte, N.C., before the league's conference championship game.
FSU went 33-13-2 from 1982-85 with Dukes on the team, and he started 48 games in his career. He played 10 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Atlanta Falcons, and is now an analyst for the NFL Network.
