Florida State starting pitcher Peter Miller gave up just two hits in 6 2/3 innings and three relievers combined to finish off the three-hit shutout as the Seminoles defeated South Alabama 2-0 on Tuesday night in Tallahassee.

Miller struck out four while improving to 4-1 on the season. Bill Strode pitched a perfect inning and Gage Smith recorded an out before Robby Coles pitched the final inning to earn his eighth save for FSU, ranked No. 6 in the nation by Baseball America.

The Seminoles (31-6), who were held to five hits, were led by second baseman John Sansone, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Center fielder Seth Miller drove in FSU’s other run and first baseman John Nogowski scored a run.

Third baseman Bud Collura had all three hits for South Alabama (27-11).

Florida 5, Florida Gulf Coast 3: Taylor Gushue went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Bobby Poyner (1-0) allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win as the visiting Gators (20-18) beat the Eagles (20-13) to extend their season-high winning streak to six games.

Poyner allowed four hits and no walks while striking out four. Justin Shafer went 3-for-5 for UF.

Florida Atlantic 10, Central Florida 2: Tyler Rocklein and Mitch Morales each had two RBIs and Mike Spano and Ricky Santiago had three hits apiece as the visiting Owls (25-12) routed the Knights (20-18) for their third straight win.

FAU pounded out 15 hits. Bret Gordon went 3-for-4 with an RBI for UCF, which was coming off a series win at Rice.

Palm Beach State 6, Brevard 2: J.D. Underwood pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, leading the Panthers (32-16) over the Titans in Lake Worth. Underwood also drove in three runs.

Palm Beach Atlantic 4-5, Northwood 3-8: The host Sailfish (23-18) and Seahawks (28-22) split a doubleheader, with Palm Beach Atlantic winning 4-3 in the first game and Northwood taking the nightcap 8-5.

In the first game, the Sailfish won by scoring on Seahawks starter Jesse Russianoff’s wild pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. PBA freshman Phil DiLandro (2-2) pitched all seven innings and earned the win.

Northwood earned a split by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh in the second game, with Alexis Batista hitting a grand slam.
