Sean Burris, an Atlanta Track Club competitive team member from Dunwoody, won the 2011 Atlanta Half Marathon, finishing in a time of 1:08:34, nearly a minute and a half ahead of Andrew Heath of Atlanta. Burris pulled away from the lead pack near mile seven and maintained his lead through the finish Thursday morning as more than 12,800 runners and walkers participated, the most ever in the annual event.
In the women’s race, 2010 champion Erin Sutton, of Woodstock, won in a time of 1:20:17, more than a minute faster than her 2010 finish. Sutton edged 2007 winner Jill Horst, of Rome, by six seconds.
In the 5K, Andrew Fuller, of Rome, won in a time of 15:40 and Sarah Gentry, of Plano, Texas, won the women’s race in a time of 20:58.
