Moose is back.

Mike Muscala agreed Friday to a two-year, $10 million contract to remain with the Hawks, according to a person familiar with the situation. The Hawks have not announced the deal.

The forward/center was an unrestricted free agent after spending his first four seasons with the Hawks. The new deal includes a player option in the second year, giving Muscala an opportunity to re-enter unrestricted free agency after next season.

Muscala was a second-round pick (No. 44 overall) in 2013 by the Mavericks, but was obtained by the Hawks in a draft-night trade. He spent part of a season playing in Spain before joining the Hawks.

Muscala averaged 6.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.7 minutes over 70 games last season. The versatile big man shot 41.8 percent from 3-point range.

The preference was for Muscala to remain in Atlanta, he said during his exit interview following the season.

“Absolutely,” he said of a desired return. “Obviously, this is where I was drafted. Atlanta is a special place for me. I feel like the organization is headed in the right direction with the ownership and the coaching staff, practice facility. I’ve loved my time here.”

Muscala could be considered a starter next season at center. He, Miles Plumlee and Diamond Stone are the only centers on the roster.
