Reserve guard Shelvin Mack will miss at least a week due to a strained calf muscle.

“I think we are still gathering some of the information … but he will be out a minimum of a week,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said Monday before the Hawks host the Pistons. “We’ll know more in the next day or two how much longer than that.”

Mack was injured in the second quarter of Saturday’s win at Chicago. He scored a layup with 9:16 remaining and came up limping. He was looked at by trainers during an ensuing timeout and eventually went back to the locker room. The team later announced the injury and the fact that Mack would not return.

Mack was ruled out of today’s game in the team’s injury report Sunday.

The Hawks will have point guard Dennis Schroder back for today’s game, Budenholzer confirmed. Schroder did not play Saturday. Budenholzer gave no indication that Schroder was injured when asked specifically prior to the Bulls game if every player was available. Budenholzer only noted that Pero Antic would be inactive for rest.

When Mack went down, Schroder did not play. He was seen in the pregame locker room with a stimulant boot on his left ankle. The Hawks used Kent Bazemore to play point guard when starter Jeff Teague rested.

Following the game, Budenholzer acknowledged that Schroder had been injured in Friday’s win at the Raptors.

“Dennis is a little banged up,” Budenholzer said. “He tweaked his ankle last night. He was available. It was a tough decision but just thinking big picture and long term we chose to just go with Jeff and mix and match a bit in the second half. We expect Dennis to be ready to play Monday.”
