The Hawks waived forward Tyler Cavanaugh on Friday. The move comes in advance of a $450,000 contract guarantee for next season due to Cavanaugh on Tuesday.

The Hawks signed Cavanaugh to a “two-way” contract in November that limited the number of days he could spend with the their NBA team rather than G League Erie. Injuries to Hawks frontcourt players opened an opportunity for Cavanaugh, who earned a full NBA contract after he was a major contributor over the first two months.

Cavanaugh appeared in 39 games with averages of 13.3 minutes, 4.7 points and 3.3 rebounds. He made 32 of 89 three-point attempts (36 percent).

Cavanaugh, 24, wasn’t selected in the 2017 draft out of George Washington. He played for the Hawks during last year’s Summer League.
