Hawks’ Teague named player of the week

Jeff Teague was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 29-Jan. 4 on Monday.

Teague joins Al Horford as Hawks to be so honored this season. Horford won the award for the week of Dec. 15-21.

Teague won the award by leading the Hawks to a 3-0 record with wins over the Cavaliers and at the Jazz and Trail Blazers on back-to-back nights.

In the three wins, Teague averaged 23.7 points, 8.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals with a .587 shooting percentage. Combined, he was a plus-42.

Here’s a look at Teague’s week:

* Dec. 30 vs. Cavaliers: 23 points (8 of 13), 11 assists, five rebounds, three steals.

* Jan. 2 vs. Jazz: 26 points (9 of 17), eight assists, four rebounds, three steals.

* Jan. 3 vs. Trail Blazers: 22 points (8 of 16), six assists, three rebounds, two steals.

Teague was a player of the week nominee on two other occasions this season.

The Thunder’s Kevin Durant won the award in the Western Conference.

Other nominees were: Brooklyn’s Joe Johnson, Chicago’s Jimmy Butler, Dallas’ Monta Ellis, Detroit’s Andre Drummond, Los Angeles Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan and J.J. Redick, Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Phoenix’s Eric Bledsoe.
