Another NBA assistant coach with ties to Hawks general manager Rick Sund is a candidate to be the team's next head coach.
Portland assistant coach Dean Demopoulos is scheduled for a phone interview with the Hawks, according to a person with knowledge of the team's search. Demopoulos, 56, was an assistant coach in Seattle when Sund was the general manager there.
Demopoulos was an assistant coach under John Chaney at Temple for 17 years and was head coach for one season at Missouri-Kansas City. He's the lead assistant for Blazers coach Nate McMillan.
The Hawks are set to meet with Dwane Casey later in the week. Casey, a Mavericks assistant and former Timberwolves coach, was an assistant in Seattle during Sund's time there.
The Hawks have met with former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. They also are said to be interested in Utah assistant and former Hawks player Tyrone Corbin.
The Hawks are looking for a coach after they told Mike Woodson on Friday that he wouldn't return as coach after six seasons.
