The Hawks received commitments from five players to join their 14-man roster for NBA summer league play next month: guards Jaylen Adams (St. Bonaventure), Junior Robinson (Mt. St. Mary’s) and Brandon Sampson (LSU) and forwards Zach Smith (Texas Tech) and Zach LeDay.

Adams, Robinson, Sampson and Smith were eligible for the draft Thursday, but were not selected. LeDay played last season in Israel after he wasn’t selected in the 2017 draft out of Virginia Tech.

Those players will join two picks from Thursday’s NBA draft, Trae Young (No. 5 overall) and Omari Spellman (No. 30). Alpha Kaba, the No. 60 overall pick by the Hawks in the 2017 draft, also will play for the summer team. Kaba played in France last season.

Kevin Huerter, the No. 19 overall pick Thursday, won’t play for the Hawks this summer because of a hand injury he suffered before the draft. General manager Travis Schlenk said Huerter will be out three months.

Six Hawks players who were on the roster last season will play for the summer league entry: John Collins, Tyler Dorsey, DeAndre’ Bembry, Antonius Cleveland, Jaylen Morris and Andrew White III.

The Hawks will play in the Utah Summer League on July 2-5 and the Las Vegas Summer League on July 6-17.
