Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer reiterated Wednesday night that any conversations with other teams about prospective trades are just the normal part of NBA business and that no deal is imminent.

Reports surfaced Wednesday that the Hawks have spoken to several teams about possible trades with starting point guard Jeff Teague cited. According to several people familiar with the situation, such talks were very preliminary. The fact is that the Hawks have taken calls from many teams about many players on their roster. Those calls have increased with the NBA trading deadline fast approaching on Feb. 18.

Budenholzer, who also serves as President of Basketball Operations, said General Manager Wes Wilcox is simply listening at this point.

“We’ve got a good team,” Budenholzer told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’ve got good players. We’ve been a little bit inconsistent. I’ve been very protective of this group all year and will continue to be. Is it Wes’s job to take calls and listen? Yes. We are not any different from any other team. It’s a credit to our team and our players (that teams would inquire about possible trades). I will continue to be protective of our group.”

The Hawks are third in the Eastern Conference with a 27-20 record following Wednesday’s 85-83 loss to the Clippers.
