Bibby out with toe injury
Hawks guard Mike Bibby missed the game at Charlotte on Tuesday and also could sit out Wednesday's game at Detroit because of an ingrown toenail on his left big toe.
Bibby said he has had problems with the nail before, with the usual remedy to remove some skin so he can function without pain. But he said the right half of the nail was removed this time to avoid an infection.
Bibby tried to participate in the team’s shootaround Tuesday afternoon but couldn’t go. He said he’s not sure if he would play at Detroit.
“I will try it when we get there,” he said.
Rookie Jeff Teague replaced Bibby in the lineup for his second start of the season.
Johnson improved: Woodson said Hawks guard Joe Johnson, who will miss his third consecutive game Wednesday with a sprained right thumb, could return against Toronto on Friday at Philips Arena.
“The word I got [Tuesday] is he feels a lot better,” Woodson said.
Horford's sportsmanship: A panel of former NBA players selected Hawks center Al Horford as the Southeast Division winner for the NBA Sportsmanship Award. Active players will vote for the league winner of the award, which is meant to honor a player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court. The winner is announced after the regular season.
