The Braves scratched right-hander Julio Teheran from his scheduled start on Tuesday because of illness and right-hander Williams Perez took his place to face the Dodgers in the opener of the three-game series.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Teheran told the team he felt ill on Monday, an off day for the team, and was still weak when he reported to Turner Field on Tuesday. Gonzalez said Teheran was to visit with the team doctor Tuesday evening but expected that he would be able to start on Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Teheran's scratch meant Perez was back on the mound just four days after hit last start, Friday at the Marlins. Gonzalez said Perez should be OK after he threw 73 pitches in his last start. He said right-hander Ryan Weber can serve as a "bridge" to the rest of the bullpen after he was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday to serve as an extra (13th) reliever.
The rotation already had been shuffled before Teheran was scratched. Right-hander Matt Wisler had his scheduled Tuesday start pushed back to Thursday because he pitched the 10th inning at the Marlins on Sunday.
