Baseball reduced Brewers relief pitcher Will Smith’s suspension for an illegal substance from eight games to six, the team announced on Friday. Smith, a product of Newnan’s Northgate High, began the suspension on Friday.

Umpires ejected Smith from a game against the Braves on May 21 at Turner Field after Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez asked them to check a substance on his right, non-throwing arm. Smith said the substance was a mixture of rosin and sunscreen that he used to get a better grip on the ball while warming up in the bullpen.

The Brewers are not allowed to replace Smith on the roster during his suspension.
