BOSTON—Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski singled in the second inning against the Red Sox on Wednesday to become the 10th player at his position to collect 2,000 career hits.

Pierzysnki reached the milestone during his 7,608th plate appearance. He hit Steven Wright’s first pitch on a line to left field to end a 0-for-9 streak.

Pierzynski, 39, enjoyed a career resurgence when he joined the Braves last season and hit .300 while playing 113 games. He entered Wednesday batting .213 (10-for-47) this season.

Johnny Bench (2,048) is the next catcher on the career hits list. Ivan Rodriguez (2,844) leads all catchers.
