New Braves outfielder Cameron Maybin has flashed some power early in the season.
Maybin hit his second home run of the season on Wednesday for his second homer in just 18 at-bats. Entering the season Maybin had 31 home runs in 1,873 career at-bats.
“I’ve been swinging the bat well,” Maybin said. “Sometimes you don’t get things to go your way. This team (the Marlins) in particular, they made some good plays on me. But I’m just trying to do what I can to help guys like (Freddie) Freeman out, guys like (Chris Johnson) who have been here. Just trying to put some tough at-bats together so those guys can see pitches.”
The Braves acquired Maybin as part of the trade that sent Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton Jr. to the Padres. Maybin has split time in centerfield with Eric Young Jr.
Maybin led off the sixth inning with a home run on Wednesday. He led off the Braves’ first inning with a home run in the home opener against the Mets on Friday
Maybin has hit all three of his career lead-off home runs at Turner Field. He did it against Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson while playing for the Marlins in 2010.
“That could mean something,” Maybin said, smiling. “Start a good trend.”
