Braves center fielder Ender Inciarte (hamstring) is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday but manager Fredi Gonzalez said it could be another two weeks before he’s ready to return.
Gonzalez said an optimistic timeline for Inciarte’s return is the end of the month or early in May.
“He has done baseball activities, (increased)the running a little bit, not much, but he’s making progress,” Gonzalez said. “I say the end of the month (tentatively) because I don’t know how much we are going to push him.”
Inciarte suffered a strained hamstring while running to first base on April 8 and was placed on the DL April 9. In three games with the Braves he’s hit .250 with a .400 on-base percentage while making a handful of good plays in the field.
Prospect Mallex Smith (six games) and veteran Drew Stubbs (three) have started in center field in Inciarte’s absence.
