As Atlanta hit mid-snore in Friday’s morning early hours, the Braves were doing some things that haven’t happened in a while.

They had been 1-47 this season when trailing after eight innings, until Nick Markakis’s ninth inning homer tied the Cubs 3-3. Two innings later, Tyler Flowers drove in Freddie Freeman for a 4-3 win. The game, delayed an hour and 35 minutes by ran, lasted 3:54, ending at 1:34 a.m. (EDT).

The win also left the Braves with a 3-3 season split with the Central Division-leading Cubs. The Braves had lost four straight at Wrigley Field and had been dominated in the 2015 season series (1-6).

“Any win is big,” Markakis said. “You want to win the series. If you split against a team like this — they’re out there trying to win the series and you are too — any time you can get a split against a team like that, I think it’s pretty good. It’s a step in the right direction.

“We play a good team (the White Sox) the next few days and finish out the first half strong and then start all over again.”
