Bautista finds spot in Braves’ batting order, jersey number

May 4, 2018

Jose Bautista will play third base and bat fifth for the Braves against the Giants tonight at SunTrust Park.

The Braves have returned home from a 10-game road trip, in which they were 7-3 and took over the lead in the National League East, by 1-1/2 games over the Mets. Prized rookie Ronald Acuna will make his regular-season debut at home, and Bautista, who will wear jersey No. 23, joins the lineup after his promotion from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Bautista, 37, signed a minor-league contract with the Braves last month. He hit .400 (6-for-15) with a home run and four RBIs in the past five games and hit .246 across 12 minor-league games in the Braves' system at high Single-A Florida and for the Gwinett Stripers.
