CINCINNATI — Braves first baseman Matt Adams was part of a historic day in the major leagues on Saturday.

Adams’ grand slam against the Reds was one of seven hit across the big leagues. That set a single-day record, according to MLB. The previous high for grand slams in a single day was six hit on May 21, 2000.

Adams' first career grand slam put the Braves ahead 5-3 in the fifth inning. He hit a solo homer in the 12th to send the Braves to a 6-5 victory over the Reds.

The Braves acquired Adams in a trade with the Cardinals on May 20. Entering Sunday, eight of his 13 hits with the Braves were for extra bases: four home runs, three doubles and a triple.
