Giorgos Giakoumakis’ inclusion in the Greek national team will result in him not being available for Atlanta United’s match at Toronto on March 23.
Giakoumakis, who was named MLS Player of the Week after scoring three goals in Saturday’s 4-1 win against New England, will be available to play in Sunday’s match against Orlando at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Jamal Thiare likely would start at striker against Toronto.
Giakoumakis is one of several Atlanta United players who were called to their national teams. That group includes Bartosz Slisz (Poland). Saba Lobjanidze was not called into Georgia’s team for its Euro match against Luxumbourg on March 21.
Greece is scheduled to play Kazakhstan in a Euro qualifying match March 21. Poland is scheduled to play Estonia on March 21.
Manager Gregg Berhalter is scheduled to announce the U.S. roster for the Nations League at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. It include Atlanta United fullback Caleb Wiley. The U.S. is scheduled to play Jamaica on March 21 in Arlington, Texas.
