Atlanta United has signed free-agent fullback Sal Zizzo.

The option on Zizzo’s contract was declined by the New York Red Bulls after the 2017 season.

Zizzo, 30, will provide depth at right fullback.

He has eight seasons of experience in MLS: Chivas USA (2010), Portland (2011-14), Sporting KC (2014), Red Bulls (2015-17). He has two goals and 17 assists in 162 appearances in his career.

Atlanta United has one right fullback, Franco Escobar. Tyrone Mears and Anton Walkes, who split time at the position last season, are no longer with the team. The option on Mears’ contract was declined. Walkes’ loan from Tottenham Hotspur expired.

The Zizzo signing comes less than 24 hours after Jacob Peterson, who signed with Atlanta United as a free agent last year was released by the club. Peterson, 31, scored three goals in 10 appearances last season.

Before joining MLS, he played three seasons for Hannover 96 in Germany’s Bundesliga
