Atlanta United will reportedly sign Brek Shea, according to Ives Galarcep of Goal.com.

Shea, left-footed, was once a promising national team prospect while at Dallas from 2008-12, even finishing as MVP finalist in 2011, with a combination of speed and tenacity.

He was bought by Stoke City in the Premier League in 2012, which seemed a promising move. However, he made just three appearances for the Potters in the next three years and it seemed that the move curbed his career.

Shea returned to MLS in 2015 with Orlando and made 39 starts in two seasons. He was traded to Vancouver, where he made 19 starts in the past two seasons. The option on his contract was declined by the Whitecaps.

Atlanta United will reportedly sign Shea as a free agent. Still just 28 years old, he has the multi-position skill that Atlanta United likes and will provide depth at fullback and in the midfield for the reigning MLS champs.

A text to an Atlanta United spokesman hasn’t been returned.
